There’s no doubt that 2009 has been a difficult year and in tough times it’s not easy to shift attention from our own struggles to focus upon those less fortunate than ourselves. Sometimes, however, we are offered the chance to make a real difference for people who need some help; Share Our Strength’s “Great American Dine Out” is such an opportunity for all of us.
Share Our Strength is a 25-year-old organization whose mission is to eliminate childhood hunger in the United States by 2015. During the week of September 20-26th, thousands of restaurants across the country will participate in the 2nd Annual Great American Dine Out, donating a portion of their profits to help feed hungry children in America. Everyone can make a difference just by eating a great meal, purchasing a T-shirt or hat, buying a coupon, or ordering special menu items at one of these establishments during the week.
TwoTables has cooked up two ways to contribute. During the week of the Dine Out, Matt and Mindi will embark on a seven-day, 16-city tour of our home state in an attempt to purchase something from every single participating restaurant (or chain) in Colorado. It’s like a marathon, only instead of running we’ll be doing something better suited to our talents: eating fabulous food.
We’ll also be collecting tax-deductible donations from those that wish to give directly to SOS in addition to or instead of dining out. At the end of the week, TwoTables will make a matching contribution to Share Our Strength equal to the total funds pledged at this page by September 26. It’s a cause we believe in, and we’re very excited to be able to do our part to help.
We’ll be blogging about our experience throughout our trip; please check back if you’re interested in seeing how it goes.
Thanks for visiting and joining in the fight to end childhood hunger in the U.S.!
Okay, my next blog post is going to have some useful internet marketing tips for restaurant owners. I promise. This particular post is relevant, albeit perhaps not educational, to small business owners in any industry. It’s a post about a subject we visit often here at TwoTables – philanthropy.
This isn’t a guilt-ridden, you-should-be-doing-more-for-others admonishment. I [...]
What a whirlwind three days in Denver! It was the most challenging and perhaps most rewarding time of the entire Dine Out week for us; we came home yesterday, exhausted but content with our accomplishments.
Our goal was to make a purchase at every restaurant in Colorado participating in the Great American Dine Out. We [...]
Thursday, the 4th day of our challenge, was the day we headed over the divide to spend a whirlwind 3 days in Denver trying to hit close to 20 restaurants… with 3 kids… and a giant Surbuban… and two adults who apparently were both born without any sense of direction.
The plan was simple: get on [...]
